Upgrade of the existing Oracle ERP system to Release 12 & implementation of new modules in the Human Capital Management area.

Details:

  • Providing Oracle ERP upgrade services of both the database and
    application from Rel. 11i to R12.
  • Replaced the custom formscape solution with a BI publisher solution
  • Upgraded their reporting tool
  • Helped identify upgrade risks and helped use the standard
    functionality to enhance & automate several of the current business
    areas.
  • Enabled successful roll out of Self service functionality
  • Implemented new modules to automate the existing process in the
    HCM area like Performance management
  • Provide end user training and sustainment services

Challenge

Though it was a technical upgrade, the challenge was to interact with an external cloud-like server maintenance group. It was extremely difficult to constantly work on a fixed schedule even during the development phase where something simple as availability of a development instance required a lot of planning and meetings. Another challenge was to do away with complex custom technical solutions.

Solution

A high level meeting with all stakeholders was conducted where roles, responsibilities and task list was clearly established. Periodic clear communication plans helped ease this sometimes tense situation. The technical challenge was overcome by rewriting the custom code from scratch instead of applying a band-aid solution to the existing custom bolt on.
